Angel Licea Claveríe

Dr. Angel Licea-Claveríe, is a full-time profesor at the Instituto Tecnológico de Tijuana, which is part of the Tecnológico Nacional de México (Mexico). He did PHD studies on Polymer Chemistry at the Leuna-Merseburg Technological University in Germany (1990). He was on leave for sabbatical stays at the IBM Almaden Research Center in California, USA (2001) and at the Center for Nanociencie and Nanotechnology of UNAM, Mexico (2011). He has 20 years of experience in the study of temperature and pH sensitive polymers and 14 years of experience on controlled radical polymerization techniques that allowed him to synthesize well defined statistical copolymers, block copolymers, star polymers and polymer networks (hydrogels), controlling the presence of functional groups. He´s research group have studied the controlled release of anti-inflammatory and anticancer drugs from the sensitive polymeric materials developed.

Currently he works on the following topics:

1.-Development of nanocarriers: nanogels, star-polymers, for loading and release of drugs.

2.-Development of hydrogel based nancomposite biomaterials.

3.-Development of environment sensitive polymers for flocculation and sequestration of emergent contaminants from waste water.

He has coauthored more than 80 publications and has more than 800 cites to his work. He has mentored 15 PHD-students, 26 Master students and many undergraduate students. He is member of the Mexican Polymer Society since 1998 and was its President (2016-2017), he is also Member of the Mexican Chemical Society since 1994, and Member of the American Chemical Society, Division of Polymer Chemistry, since 2006.
