Belén M. received her Ph.D. degree in 2005 in Organic Chemistry by the University of Valencia with a FP98 Fellowship after enjoying of another Fellowship in 1997-1998 to collaborate in the organic chemistry department of the same university. Based on her knowledge in organic chemistry acquired in the environment of synthesis of 3-oxa-guayanolides, Belén Monje continued her professional career at AIMPLAS from 2003 to the present in the field of the identification and characterization of materials through the use of multiple analysis and instrumental techniques, the execution of technical advice with companies in the plastics sector as well as in different lines of research participating in more than 60 research projects being the main researcher in an important part of them. In 2006 she received a Torres Quevedo Fellowship. In 2018 she promoted as responsible for the synthesis department of AIMPLAS and now she is the Chemical Technology Group Leader of AIMPLAS in which she has continued participating in research projects including their coordination of different typologies and fields of application. Among the main research lines in which she has been involved in recent years, it can be highlighted the development of prostheses with better wear properties, development of asphalt mixtures that incorporate plastic waste with improved properties, development of biopolymers such as biopolyamides from monomers obtained from waste, biopolyesters for packaging and other applications, reactive extrusion, enzymatic polymerizations, chemical recycling, among others. In addition, her teaching activity has been very relevant in recent years, with more than 50 courses taught and more than 400 teaching hours. She is a permanent member of the Technical Committee of the AENOR Technical Committee of Normalisation number 53 related to plastics and rubber and she is expert in REACH Regulation (Reg. No. 1907/2006) for the companies in the plastics sector.
