Arjan W. Kleij his MSc (honors, 1996) and PhD (cum laude, 2000) from the University of Utrecht working in the group of Gerard van Koten (dendrimer/hyperbranched homogeneous catalyst structures). In 2000, he moved to industry and worked for more than 3 years at Avantium as a project leader (biopolymer synthesis), and at a later stage of his career (2005) at Hexion Specialty Chemicals as a research scientist in the Epoxy & Phenolic Resins Division. He joined the group of Javier de Mendoza (UAM, Madrid) as a PDF in 2002, and continued postdoctoral work with Joost Reek at the University of Amsterdam (2003-2005) in the field of supramolecular catalysis. October 2006, he was offered a position as Group Leader at ICIQ and joined ICREA, where he was promoted to ICREA professor in 2011. Arjan has (co)authored around 180 international journal publications and 4 patent applications with total citations beyond 9900. His current h-index ranks around 55. Among others, he is an editorial board member for ChemSusChem and the Journal of CO2 Utilization, and associate editor for Organic Chemistry Frontiers (RSC). In 2016 he chaired the first Carbon Dioxide Conversion Catalysis (CDCC-1) conference in Portugal, and chaired the 4th EuCheMS Congress on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (EuGSC-4) in Tarragona (2019). He received a NWO-Talent fellowship in 2001 and became and ICREA fellow in 2006. His main research interests are in the area of CO2 valorization catalysis, and the use of renewable compounds and monomers in stereo-selective transformations and polymer applications.
